The artist's morning
We begin the artist’s morning:
Open your eyes.
Stretch.
Greet the day.
Thank the universe that you get to be here today.
If you can, walk outside, and feel the sunlight on your face.
Take a deep breathe.
Exhale.
If so inclined, take that first sip of tea or coffee to warm your body and mind.
Sit down somewhere comfortable.
Pick up a pen or pencil, and just hold it.
Look at your empty page, and thank it for being your canvas.
Now clear your mind.
If a thought appears, don’t judge the thought.
Allow it to pass, like wind through your hair.
Place your pen against the paper, and just see what the three of you create.
Do not ask for anything specific.
Just allow the present to occur.
Remember, you and your tools are in conversation with each other.
There is no right.
There is no wrong.
There is just what is.
Now let’s see.
Hmmm.
It looks like you drew Snoopy from Peanuts.
And he’s banging out Lucy from the back.
And Moe from the Simpsons is there, and he’s just sort of watching.
Hmmmm.
I’ve never said this before, but you actually should stop drawing, and you should feel bad about what you’ve created.
You’ve ruined the artist’s morning.
The artist’s morning is over.
